Here you will find everything you need to set up Pinterest successfully, post organically and create Pinterest ads
Pinterest was quite late to the Social Media “originals” game, launching in January 2010. And it is now the 14th most used social media platform beating Twitter (16th) and Linkedin (not ranking in the top 20).
The platform now has 459 million monthly active users
Pinterest gained more than 100 million monthly active users in 2020. That’s the biggest increase the platform has ever seen. The influx of Pinners led to a 37% rise in monthly active users between 2019 and 2020.
A significant share of the company’s growth took place outside of the United States. International monthly active users rose to 361 million in 2020. That’s a 46% increase from the previous year.
Demographics
Whilst 60% of users are female – in 2020 50% of new users were male – so the demographic is changing for users, whereas for advertisers it is still 77% female-focused.
Gen Z users grew by 40% between 2019 and 2020 – so maybe they are not spending all their time on Tik Tok! The number of millennial Pinners (anyone born between 1981 and 1996) grew by 35%.
People watch close to one billion videos a day on Pinterest, not everyone associates Pinterest with video, but it’s been a growing vertical on the platform. And new ad formats have been introduced to support that.
Usage
95% of the top searches on Pinterest are unbranded
Why does this matter? It means that Pinners are open to discovering new products and ideas. Almost 9 in 10 people use Pinterest for purchase inspiration, and 98% of people polled by the company say they try new things based on what they find.
